The Russian Ministry of Finance paid its latest debt repayment instalment of $25,000,000 to the International Monetary Fund on Wednesday. A source in the Ministry of Finance told RIA Novosti that he money had been transferred in accordance "with the original schedule of payments." The ministry will also make payments on October 21st and 24th. In all, Russia is to reimburse about 480 million dollars to the IMF in October. The most recent instalment had been worth $25,197,000, which was paid to the IMF on September 28th. The fund received 51 million dollars from Russia in September. Russia owed the IMF about 10 billion dollars in early 2001 and should pay back 2 billion 67 million dollars this year in accordance with the agreed schedule. More than half of this sum has already been repaid. The IMF has stated that Russia is meeting its obligations in full.
According to a source in the Russian Defence Ministry, Russia started deploying elite commando units in eastern Libya. Russian GRU officers, mercenaries and advisors have arrived in Libya
