Russian-Brazilian trade in 2001 amounted to 1.5 billion dollars, said official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko in an interview with RIA Novosti on Friday in view of the January 13-16 official visit to Russia by President Fernando Cardoso of Brazil. As was pointed out by the diplomat, Russia is interested in importing Brazilian agricultural products. For its part, Moscow is ready to export to Brazil products of machine-building. In the opinion of Alexander Yakovenko, Russian energy companies are able to ensure the construction in Brazil of energy facilities as turn-key projects, to prospect for and extract oil and gas, to render assistance in building gas pipelines and facilities of infrastructure. The sides come out for actively introducing new forms of cooperation. Alexander Yakovenko pointed out the growing interest of the business quarters in the two countries in partnership relations. The diplomat believes that reciprocal trips of entrepreneurs contribute to this in many respects. In the context of cooperation between Russia and Brazil in the third countries, mutually advantageous investment projects have been worked out for building economic facilities in Angola.
