Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi called upon the DPRK to abandon its nuclear weapons development program. He made this statement on Saturday during the international conference in Moscow's Institute of Nuclear Research.
The Japanese Premier also demanded that North Korea immediately cancel its decision to abandon the Nonproliferation Treaty taken on Thursday. According to Koizumi, he is "very disappointed and concerned" about Pyongyang's decision.
He also said that Japan is closely cooperating with the United States, South Korea and Russia in finding possible solutions to the situation.
The Japanese Prime Minister pointed out that he discussed the crisis around North Korean nuclear weapons program with the Russian president during their meeting on Friday and that the sides achieved "mutual understanding" on this issue.
