Russian Foreign Minister to Visit Iran

The official part of the visit by Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov who arrived in Iran the day before is beginning on Tuesday. Talks with his Iranian counterpart Kamal Kharazi are on the agenda. According to the plan, during this meeting the two foreign ministers will discuss a number of topical international problems. Chief attention will be paid to the situation around Iraq.

Furthermore, the Ministers are expected to discuss the situation in Afghanistan in the context of assistance to stabilisation and restoration of the economic infrastructure of that country.

The programme of the Russian Foreign Minister's stay for Tuesday also includes talks with President of Iran Mohammad Khatami, secretary of the High Council of National Security Hasan Rukhani, chairman of the Council on Expediency of Decisions Taken of Iran Hashemi-Rafsanjani, and chairman of majles (parliament) of the Islamic Republic Mehdi Karroubi.
