Personal representative of the UN Secretary General Lakhdar Brahimi arrived in Afghanistan last Tuesday to prepare a ceremony of giving power over to the country's interim government. It is expected to take up the duties on December 22, reported Indian mass media with reference to the statement by an official UN representative. According to him, the plane with Brahimi on board landed at the military air base in Baghram situated 20 km to the east from the Afghan capital. On that same day Brahimi will hold talks with foreign minister of the interim government of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah. It is expected that the interim government headed by Hamid Karzai will work for six months, that is when the general elections in Afghanistan are held. Karzai also intends to leave Kandahar for Kabul on Tuesday. However, his negotiations with Brahimi have not been officially confirmed so far. Brahimi is going to leave Afghanistan on Wednesday to return to Kabul once again by December 22.
