Sparks-based McCormick & Co. expanded its recall of four products Thursday stemming from possible salmonella contamination, part of a nationwide recall of a growing list of processed food products.
The expanded recall includes additional packages of French onion dip mix, vegetable dip, onion gravy and corn bread stuffing that contain hydrolyzed vegetable protein, a flavor enhancer, manufactured after Sept. 17, The Baltimore Sun reports.
It’s been a week since top food safety officials in Washington, DC publicly disclosed that Salmonella had been found inside the Basic Food Flavors food processing facility located in North Las Vegas. And, the Nevada Company recalled all the HVP it made and sold going back to last September.
A week later, there are 149 products containing HVP on the recall list in the United States, and 11 in Canada from brand names like Sobeys, Metro, and Loblaw’s, Food Safety News reports.
The company said last week that it was recalling McCormick French Onion dip mix, McCormick vegetable dip mix, McCormick onion gravy mix and McCormick corn bread stuffing with certain "Best By" dates and product codes. Thursday, the company added more "Best By" dates to that list.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children and others with weakened immune systems.
No illnesses have been associated with these McCormick products, The Associated Press reports.
