Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder harshly criticized the current position of Germany and the European Union in relation to Russia. Schroeder expressed his point of view speaking at the University of Regensburg.
"I believe that the European Union was living in illusions when it was thinking that sanctions would help Moscow think the EU way. The EU made a big mistake when it assumed that it would be able to force Russia to something at all," Gerhard Schroeder said.
The former chancellor believes that Ukraine's membership in NATO is dangerous and that it will never bring the country anything good. Schroeder expressed a hope that Europe would be able to correct its mistake and conduct talks with Russia and Ukraine on equal terms.
