Fifty-two cars collide in China because of heavy fog

A 52-car pile-up on an expressway between two major cities in southwest China killed four people, state media said Friday.

It was not known how many people were injured in the accident on the Chengdu-Chongqing expressway Friday morning, Xinhua News Agency said.

Police said the accident was caused by speeding drivers who could not stop their cars in time in the fog, according to Xinhua.

It said the highway was closed for 3-1/2 hours. It gave no other details.
