Conference "Central Asia in 21st Century" Opened in Tashkent

The international conference Central Asia in the 21st Century: Cooperation, Partnership and Dialogue began its work in Tashkent on Tuesday.

About 100 experts and analysts representing the countries of Central Asia, the USA, Japan, Great Britain, France, Canada, Turkey, Russia, the PRC, India, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan, as well as the UN, the European Union, the OSCE, NATO, the World Bank, the EBRD and the ABRD are participating in the forum's work.

As director of the Institute of Strategic and Interregional Studies under president of Uzbekistan Ravshan Alimov said, the problems of ensuring regional security in Central Asia will be considered in the course of the conference.

Furthermore, the main factors for influencing the formation of a new security environment in Central Asia and the obstacles to the formation of more intensive cooperation of the regional resources of the economies of the Central-Asian countries will be discussed.

The conference is organised by the Institute of Strategic and Interregional Studies under the president of Uzbekistan, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (the FRG), and the information and press department of NATO.
