Palestine – announcement of things to come

The United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York has revealed that the USA intends to press ahead with plans for Palestine and Israel to live side by side.

US Secretary of State Colin Powell declared that President George Bush’s mention of “Palestine” and not “Palestine Authority”, as this State has been referred to until now, was not a lapsus linguae. “If we are walking towards a vision of two states side by side, it is appropriate to call these two states by what they will be: Israel and Palestine”.

Colin Powell met with Yasser Arafat and the Israeli Foreign Minister, Shimon Peres, although President Bush prefers to wait until there is a clear agenda before committing himself to a meeting.
