Secretary General of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Jan Kubis said that the OSCE countries, with the assistance of the United Nations, intend to form a global system for combating terrorism, and therefore the countries of Central Asia are important partners in this fight. Jan Kubis spoke about it in Bishkek at the opening of the International Conference on Combating Terrorism. He also believes that all the countries should intensify their cooperation with the Central Asian states "to ensure security and stability in the region." The OSCE rejects any forms of terrorism and will in every way contribute to any dialogue between the countries" with the aim of fighting against this evil, said Jan Kubis. At its opening ceremony, the Bishkek conference was addressed also by President of Kirghizia Askar Akayev who said that after the terrorist attacks in the USA on September 11 the whole world had joined hands to fight against terrorism. It is for this reason that "the role of the international organisations has considerably increased." And therefore, they could head this fight and play "a uniting role in stabilising the situation in the world," believes Askar Akayev.
