The presidents of Russia and Armenia, Vladimir Putin and Robert Kocharyan, have met in the Kremlin to discuss economic coordination between the two countries. As Putin said at the start of the meeting, the two governments are working on a suggestion by the Armenian president on how to resolve financial matters. The Russian president said that on May 8 the Russian side sent its latest proposals on the participation of Russian economic structures in some Armenian defence and power enterprises. Putin emphasised that economic coordination between the two countries is doing well, and political contacts are at a high level. He also noted that a Russian military base is situated in Armenia, and "we are satisfied with the situation around it." The Russian head of state thanked Kocharyan for supporting humanitarian projects connected with the development of the Russian language in Armenia. Putin remarked that a forum, "The Russian Language In My Life", was recently held in Yerevan and attended by the wives of the two presidents. Kocharyan in his turn emphasised that the forum's atmosphere was good. He also described its holding as a good idea and voiced hope that it would become traditional.
