Georgia does not leave hope to NATO membership

Georgia expects to get information about the prospect of its integration into NATO during the visit by NATO Secretary General George Robertson to Tbilisi on May 14. This question will be among the key items discussed at the talks between Robertson and the Georgian leadership.

During his one-day stay in Tbilisi the UN Secretary General will consider with the Georgian leaders ways of promoting cooperation between Georgia and NATO, progress of reforms in the Georgian Armed Forces, and a possibility of holding a conference of NATO countries in Tbilisi.

Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze said earlier that he intended to hear at the talks with George Robertson about NATO plans concerning Georgia and discuss the present situation in the armed forces and the plans of Georgia's Defense Ministry for the coming two or three years.
