At least 10 people were killed when a strategic bridge collapsed in a suicide truck bomb explosion in a town in Northern Iraq on Tuesday. The tragedy occurred as cars plunged into the river, drowning the passengers inside, police said.

Earlier, a group of armed assailants shot dead an Iraqi police officer's pregnant wife, his brother, and 12-year-old son in an overnight attack in the town of Suwaira , 50km south of Baghdad . Major Akil Radi Edan's two other sons were wounded in the attack, RTT News informs.

The attack occurred about noon on the Thiraa Dijla bridge in Taji, a town near a US air base some 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the capital, police said, giving the casualty toll. The bridge lies on the main highway that links Baghdad with the northern city of Mosul , Jerusalem Post reports.
