Settling domestic Georgian conflict in Holland

Experts from Georgian, South Ossetian, Russian and North Ossetian delegations are to meet here today, subsequently negotiating until October 17.

This regular conference is organised in Holland, which is now presiding over the OSCE (Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe), a diplomat serving with the Russian Embassy in Holland told RIA Novosti.

The sides are to discuss specific opportunities for deblocking the 1989-1992 Georgian - South Ossetian conflict. At that time, South Ossetia was deprived of its status as a Georgian autonomy by the then president Zviad Gamsakhurdia of Georgia.

Peace-keeping forces, which comprise a Russian battalion, a Georgian battalion and an Ossetian battalion, have been controlling the conflict zone since 1992.

Ambassador at large Mikhail Mayorov will be representing the Russian side at the talks.
