The US government is now considering a possibility of "new initiatives" in rendering assistance to Russia in the field of destruction and safe storage of materials used in mass-destruction weapons. The White House press service said this on Wednesday, having circulated this information as official materials on the results of the summit between George Bush and Vladimir Putin. By the press service's information, the US government is now finishing a detailed review of all the US-Russian programmes operating in this sphere, with a view to making them more effective and better oriented. More than 30 such joint programmes the total financing of which between 1992 and 2001 amounted to approximately 4 billion dollars are now being implemented in Russia with the US financial support, the report reads.
