The first ever Russian language TV channel in Israel began broadcasting on Tuesday, November 12. As a Rosbalt correspondent reports, organisers of the new TV channel were congratulated by Russian speaking members of the Israeli government and parliament (Knesset) as well as representatives of the emigrant community. There are currently about 1,250,000 emigrants from Russia and the Soviet Union living in Israel.
TV channel Israel+ will be broadcast for 19 hours every day. Russian speaking Israelis will be able to watch news broadcasts, political, social and entertainment programmes as well as films in Russian. The TV channel also intends to devote time to problems within Israel.
Cable television also enables Russian speaking residents of Israel to watch Russian TV channels ORT, Rossiya and NTV.
