According to preliminary estimates, Russia-Poland trade turnover in 2001 amounted to USD 5.618 billion. These data were disseminated by the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in connection with the forthcoming visit by President Vladimir Putin to Poland. In 2001, Russian exports to Poland grew by USD 42 million to USD 4.660 billion. The share of energy exports constitutes over 80 percent of the total Russian exports to the Polish market. Russia mainly import from Poland foodstuffs and agricultural products (43 percent), chemicals (17 percent), and machinery and equipment (12 percent). The ministry notes that economic cooperation with Poland is developing rather actively at the level of regions as well.
