Australia and Pakistan: counter-terrorism agreement

Australia and Pakistan have signed a &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/world/2001/10/06/17265.html ' target=_blank>counter-terrorism agreement which will allow for the sharing of sensitive intelligence and joint training by their security forces.

The agreement is a key outcome of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's visit to Australia, the first ever by a head of state from his country, which has centred on terror and trade.

The memorandum of understanding, signed in front of Musharraf and Prime Minister &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/war/2003/03/27/45146.html ' target=_blank>John Howard at Parliament House, provides a framework for Australian and Pakistani security officials to work together.

It will allow for cooperation in law enforcement, intelligence, security and border controls, tells the Forbes.

The counter-terrorism accord, the 11th signed by Australia, will help foster cooperation between the nations' intelligence, security, law enforcement and defense agencies, Australian Prime Minister John Howard said today in Canberra.

``Pakistan and Australia have long ties of history,'' Howard told reporters. ``We have signed a memorandum of understanding on terrorism.''
