President Vladimir Putin of Russia has arrived at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. A meeting between UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and Vladimir Putin has taken place in the former's office on the 38-th floor of the UN building. Discussed at the meeting, which among others was attended by Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and Russia's permanent representative to the UN Sergei Lavrov, was the organization's role in a post-crisis arrangement in Afghanistan. Apart from that, the conferees discussed the United Nations' role in strengthening international contacts, promoting efficiency of available UN arrangements, and activities of Kofi Annan's special representative to Afghanistan Lakhdar Ibrahimi. After the meeting, Vladimir Putin is expected to attend a divine service in the Russian Orthodox St.Nickolas cathedral in Manhattan.
