Turkmenia begins military exercises on the coast of the Caspian Sea

This Saturday, August 16, Turkmenia has launched military exercises called Calm Motherland on the coast of the Caspian Sea.

The exercises will involve units of the defense ministry, the national security ministry, the interior ministry and state border guard service of Turkmenia.

According to President Saparmurat Niyazov, about 2,500 troops will demonstrate their military skills specially for the delegates and guests of the 14th joint session of the People's Council (the country's highest body of state power) being held in the city of Turkmenbashi.

Military attaches from the embassies of foreign states accredited in Ashkhabad, and also NATO representatives who are arriving today in the city of Turkmenbashi (former Krasnovodsk) will participate in the exercises as observers.

The name of the exercises (Calm Motherland) has been chosen to demonstrate the basic directions of the activity of Turkmen special units and power structures.

More than 5.8 million people voted for Nicholas Maduro at the presidential election in Venezuela. This is more than a quarter of registered voters. Why did those people vote for the man, who, as Western media write, took Venezuela to the brink of collapse?
