On August 16 the election campaign of presidential candidates started in Azerbaijan. According to the Election code, the election campaign of presidential candidates starts 60 days prior to the election day and should be completed 24 hours before the start of the voting process.
Elections of the Azeri President were scheduled for October 15, and the pre-election campaign shall be finished at 8 a.m on October 14.
Twelve candidates were approved to participate in the elections of the president of Azerbaijan: Geidar Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the prime minister of Azerbaijan, Isa Gambar, the chairman of the "Musavat" party, Abutalyb Samedov, the chairman of the party "Alliance in the Name of Azerbaijan", Gudrat Gasanguliyev from a group of voters, Ilyas Ismailov, the chairman of the Adalyat party, Etibar Mamedov, the chairman of the party of "National Independence of Azerbaijan", Yunus Akiyev from a group of voters, Lala Shovket Mamedova from a group of voters, Ali Kerimli, the chairman of the party of "People's Front of Azerbaijan", Sabir Rustamhanly, the chairman of the "Civil Unity" party and Hafiz Gadjiyev, the chairman of the "Muasir Musavat" Party.
