Iraqi opposition in London failed to reach consent

The Iraqi opposition has failed to reach consent on key issues for three days and the conference in London is likely to be prolonged for one more day.

After a night of consultations the Iraqi oppositionists only managed to agree to set up a committee including 50 people to become a temporary body representing the opposition abroad, said head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Jalal Talabani. Now they are discussing candidates from certain groups.

The USA expects the conference participants to express a definite standpoint on three main issues: the Iraqi opposition's readiness to overthrow Saddam Hussein's regime, its desire to cooperate with the USA in this undertaking and Iraq's intention to be a democratic society in the post-Saddam period, sources from the Iraqi national congress revealed to RIA Novosti.

According to American lobby sources at the conference, the obvious contradictions between the opposition members increase the influence of those US administration representatives who believe that military operations against Iraq can be fulfilled without relying upon uncoordinated views of the Iraqi opposition abroad.
