Berlin migration experts arrive in Moscow

Moscow-Berlin seminars on the topical migration problems have begun in the Russian capital. A delegation of German experts has arrived at the seminar to share their experience in this area. According to head of Moscow government's migration committee Sergei Smidovich, it was not a coincidence that Berlin was chosen as an imitation example, because "an excellent migration infrastructure has been created in this centre, which attracts numerous migrants." At the same time, Moscow and Russia as a whole need to upgrade the migration system. Smidovich explained that the federal migration service had been responsible for these issues for ten years running and had considerable negative experience in forming the entire migration system. The service failed to draft migration laws and to form migration infrastructure, Smidovich added.

At the present time, he said, Russia has to start forming the whole migration system anew. The migration-related issues have been passed over to the interior, foreign and economic development ministries, said Smidovich. Besides, an interdisciplinary working group for upgrading the legislative migration regulation has been set up.

The Moscow-Berlin seminars will last for two days.
