The Russian gas giant Gazprom's directors believe members of an oil consortium including BP, Statoil and LUKoil that is developing the Azerbaijani gas deposit Shah Deniz may supply Turkey with gas. This announcement was made by Gazprom's Deputy CEO Alexander Ananenkov at a briefing today. He noted that this project would hardly challenge the Russian-Turkish Blue Stream project implemented by Gazprom. The latter has already supplied Turkey with 0.5bn cubic meters of Russian natural gas, Ananenkov pointed out. Yet, he refused to give any comments as to the talks between the company and Turkish policymakers with regard to prices for Russian gas.
