The USA is preparing for a military operation in Somalia to destroy the camps of the Islamic Alliance grouping which, is believed, to be connected with the al-Qaeda organisation. The American military ships stopped and inspected six vessels in the past few days, which were going to the coast of Somalia, and confiscated weapons found on board. To prevent the penetration of al-Qaeda militants, who fled from Afghanistan, to Somalia the US and Italian helicopters and planes are raiding the border areas and the air space over the country, including the city of Mogadishu. The Saudi newspaper al-Sharq al-Awsat wrote on Monday that Kenya gives the USA a temporary military base on the border with Somalia. Foreign minister of the interim transitional government of Somalia Ismael Hourreh told in an interview given to al-Sharq al-Awsat that his country's leadership is ready to cooperate with Washington and welcomes the US armed interference if it helps to restore security and stability in Somalia and its membership in the world community. In 1993 the US troops tried to interfere in the events which took place in Somalia but when 20 US marines were killed the operation was stopped.
