Russians miss the cut, but come away from BMW open smiling

Russian players failed to leave any great impression on the BMW Russian Open with its prize fund of 400,000 euros. Russian amateur champion Dmitri Vinogradov put up one of the country's best performances, but he still failed to make the cut with the other seventy players by an agonising one shot.

Australian Marcus Fraser eventually won the tournament, beating Austrian Martin Wiegele on the second play-off hole.

The Australian said that he was very happy to have come out victorious in the tense battle, especially as Wiegele had played so well. He added that he was happy that fortune had smiled on him, as he picked up the winner's prize of 66,000 euros.

Nevertheless, the Austrian was the sensation of the tournament. Only last year he was playing as an amateur and he still managed to take second place in his professional debut at the Nakhabino course in the Moscow region.

More than 5.8 million people voted for Nicholas Maduro at the presidential election in Venezuela. This is more than a quarter of registered voters. Why did those people vote for the man, who, as Western media write, took Venezuela to the brink of collapse?
