EU welcomes elections in Macedonia

The European Union regarded September 15th parliamentary elections in Macedonia as successful and meeting European standards, says the statement, issued by Denmark, presiding over the EU, in Brussels.

The active participation of voters in the elections showed the will of Macedonian citizens to follow the way of reconciliation, restraint, stability and democracy, the document says.

The EU also welcomed the standpoint of the ruling Macedonian parties, which claimed their respect for the results of the elections. The results of the elections should be fully adopted and realised, the EU statement stressed.

According to the EU estimation, the elections revealed Macedonia's striving for peace and democracy after last year's inter-ethnic armed conflict in this country and mark a historic stage on the way of Macedonia's advanced integration into European structures.
