Russia And India Speak Out Against Participation Of Taleban Representatives In A New Government Of Afghanistan

The Taleban movement as a political force should not be represented in a new government of Afghanistan. On Thursday Russian Deputy Foreign minister Vyacheslav Trubnikov stated in the wake of negotiations with his Indian counterpart Chokil Ayer in Delhi that in that case Russian and Indian positions fully coincided. According to Trubnikov, on Thursday at a meeting of the joint working group on Afghanistan the parties spoke in favour of the post-conflict settlement being unconditionally conducted under the auspices of the United Nations Organization. Trubnikov indicated that even nowadays it was necessary to think of the future of Afghanistan. He stated that "the military phase would sooner or later be over and, certainly, it would be necessary to put at the negotiations table all interested parties and national minorities, religious groups. This was the main area where we should assist Afghanistan". At the same time Trubnikov noted that "it was impossible to work out a decision behind the backs of the Afghan people." Vyacheslav Trubnikov stated that "it was an important conclusion which they arrived at that day in the course of their negotiations". On his part Indian first deputy foreign minister Chokil Ayer emphasized fruitfulness of the conducted negotiations. She reminded that that was the second meeting of the joint working group on Afghanistan. The first meeting was held in June in Moscow. In this connection she stressed the importance of exchange of opinions on the future of Afghanistan.
