A nanny has been arrested following the death of a 14-month-old boy in her care who suffered head injuries, police said. Ada Betty Cuadros Fernandez, 37, a native of Peru, initially was charged with felony injury to a child. But McKinney police Capt. Randy Roland said Monday that the charge against her is expected to be upgraded to capital murder.
Kyle Lazarchik died on Saturday after being injured on Thursday, authorities said. Medical examiners ruled the death a homicide due to blunt force trauma.
Roland said police arrested Cuadros Fernandez because her story was not consistent with medical reports.
Cuadros Fernandez told police she had just fed Kyle and his twin brother Ryan lunch and took Kyle into the playroom.
She told police she was moving quickly and hit the right side of Kyle's head against a doorframe.
Doctors said his injuries were consistent with a major car accident or a fall from a six-floor building, according to her arrest warrant affidavit.
Child Protective Services is also investigating the baby's death. CPS spokeswoman Marissa Gonzalez said that CPS had no prior involvement with Kyle's parents or the nanny, reports the AP. I.L.
