Greece: strong quake rattles Ionian Sea holiday island

A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6 shook the popular Greek holiday island of Zakynthos on Tuesday, officials said. No injuries and only minor damage were reported from the area.

Earlier Tuesday, a moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.9 shook northwestern Greece, officials said. No injuries or damages were reported. That quake occurred at 2:55 p.m. (1155GMT) near the border with Albania, some 360 kilometers (224 miles) northwest of Athens.

The second quake had an epicenter about 255 kilometers (158 miles) west of Athens, in the Ionian Sea and occurred at 6:26 p.m. (1526GMT), the Athens Geodynamic Institute. A.M.
