Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, who is on a tour of African countries, hold a meeting with Tanzanian Prime Minister Frederick Sumaye in Dar-es-Salam Monday. The Russian Foreign Ministry's information and press department reported that the meeting was held during a brief stop of the Russian minister's aircraft on the way from the South African Republic to Moscow. Igor Ivanov and Frederick Sumaye noted close poisitions of Russia and Tanzania towards the tasks of ensuring strategic stability, strengthening the UN central role in world affairs, and forming a democratic model of international relations. Both sides expressed their readiness for cooperation in setting up a global system of counteraction to new challenges and threats to security and, first of all, to terrorism. The Russian Foreign Minister and the Tanzanian premier discussed ways of settling a number of conflicts on the African continent, primarily in the Great Lakes area, in the context of regional problems. Ivanov and Sumaye confirmed the two countries' striving to further development of bilateral mutually beneficial ties in various spheres, the Russian foreign-policy department noted.
