US only needs IAEA's formal confirmation of Iran nuclear ambitions

At its session, the board of directors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should come to one conclusion - that Iran is aggressively developing its nuclear programme.

Kenneth C. Brill, Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency, said as much at a session of the IAEA board of directors. This is the conclusion the United States is expecting from the IAEA.

According to Mr Brill, IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei's report on nuclear security in Iran clearly testifies to Iran's failure to meet its international obligations on the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty and its continued work over nuclear material.

The US spokesman added Iran's statements that it is co-operating with weapons inspectors of the IAEA do not correspond to reality.

In Mr. Brill's words, Washington expects further IAEA inspections in Iran to provide more information about enriched uranium in Iran. This information, however, should not be exculpative, he remarked.
