Taliban Kill 5 Foreign Journalists. Bodies Recovered

Five foreign journalists were found dead on the highway near Jalalabad late this afternoon. The central city of Nangarhar province, 90 kilometres off Kabul, was cleared of the Taliban yesterday. The journalists were with a Kabul-bound caravan of six jeeps, apprehended by a Taliban unit close to Jalalabad last night. Two jeeps were stopped, and the journalists taken to nearby hills to meet the firing squad. The bodies were abandoned on the roadside. Four of the martyrs have been identified--Australian cameraman Harry Burton; Maria Gracia Cutuli, correspondent of the Italian daily, Corriere de la Serra; Julio Fuentez of the Spanish-based magazine El Mundo; and Afghan photographer Aziz Haidari.
