Kenyan constitution: new key points of proposed

Key points of the proposed constitution Kenyans vote whether to accept on Monday:

A prime minister, a new position, would be appointed. The prime minister could be dismissed by the president, would not chair Cabinet meetings and would work as directed by the president.

Dates for parliament's dissolution and first sitting after elections set; president determines that under current constitution.

Elected district officials would replace administrators now appointed by the president, but they could be suspended by president.

Regional political parties would be banned.

Christian and other religious courts would be established, alongside courts that have existed for more than 40 years for Muslims, to rule on inheritance, marriage and other family issues.

Life declared to begin at conception.

Same-sex marriages would be banned even though for centuries some Kenya tribes allowed women to marry women in cultural practices intended to help those unable to conceive, reported AP. P.T.
