Ukraine city bans smoking in public places

Cherkassy, with a population of more than 300,000, has become the first city in Ukraine to ban smoking in public places.

The local assembly enacted the law, Rosbalt was told by the city administration. However, as its sponsors acknowledge, the law needs further work. Specifically, the 'public-place' concept remains undefined. Nor have funds been allocated for creation of special places where smoking will be permitted.
