The main electric power station located not far from Pristine, the capital of the Yugoslavian territory of Kosovo, caught fire on Saturday night as a result of a lightning strike. According to NATO representatives in Kosovo, as a result of the fire and a series of explosions caused by the fire about 30 people were injured.
They managed to climb out to the roof and were evacuated by helicopters of international peace-keeping forces. Local population residing within the radius of 2 kilometres from the electric power station was also evacuated.
As the electric power station provides electricity to practically the whole territory, Pristina and other cities were left without electricity during the night time.
