If agreements on the Georgian-Ossetian settlement are broken, the conflict can start anew, says the comment of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Information and Press Department.
"Our position is as follows. Agreements on the Georgian-Ossetian settlement were concluded after bloodshed was stopped. They laid down ways of maintaining peace and stability until the final political settlement of the situation. All these years, the agreements worked," says the comment.
"Statements on the possible withdrawal from them arouse regret because these agreements prevent the situation from evolving into a conflict, particularly considering that they envisage mechanisms for solving all the disputable issues. In particular, at issue is such a mechanism as the Joint Monitoring Commission," the Russian Foreign Ministry says.
"Talks about a military solution to the Georgian-Ossetian conflict contradict the numerous statements of all the parties in favour of peaceful settlement," the comment runs.
