China, Russia To Step Up Anti-terror Interaction

China and Russia are in for stepping up interaction in the struggle against terrorism, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Zhan Quiyue told a news briefing Tuesday. At a meeting, which was part of the APEC summit in Shanghai, Jiang Zemin and Vladimir Putin agreed to set up a joint ad hoc group on terrorism, recalled Ms. Quiyue. The joint anti-terrorist effort and establishment of the group were also discussed during a telephone conversation the two leaders held on Monday evening. The maiden meeting of the joint anti-terrorist group at the deputy foreign ministers' level is expected to take place in Beijing in late November, according to Zhan Quiyue. The meeting will consider measures the global community should take under the circumstances, and discuss further Cino-Russian interaction in this area.
