Iraqi Ambassador Believes Iraqi Soldiers Might Surrender

Iraqi Ambassador in Moscow Abbas Khalaf has stated that it is quite possible that Iraqi soldiers may surrender to Americans. The head of the Iraqi delegation made this statement at a press conference in RIA Novosti on Friday.

The ambassador refused either to confirm or to refute statements in mass media on Iraqi soldiers' yielding themselves prisoners and said that he did not have such information.

Abbas Khalaf also assumed that in the near future "there would be prisoners from both sides." "It is not surprising that a soldier or a group of soldiers surrender during military operations, but it cannot be called a final military success," he stated.

In this context the diplomat pointed to Iraq's last night success in striking at a US military and air base located in Kuwait and inflicting a significant damage on it.
