Police discover explosives-laden car

Spanish police Thursday found an explosives-laden car belonging to the armed Basque separatist group ETA.

A Civil Guard official said the car was found abandoned on a road near the town of Ayamonte in southwest Huelva province near the border with Portugal.

The official declined to give the amount of explosives in the car. News reports have said it was 100 kilos (220 pounds).

ETA called off 15-month-old cease-fire earlier this month, blaming the government for a failed peace process and saying it was once again becoming "active on all fronts." This was interpreted as signaling an imminent resumption of attacks, but so far there have not been any.
