Journeys from Airports Across France Disrupted Because of Strike

An air traffic control strike disrupted journeys from airports across France on Wednesday with one in five flights cancelled from Paris's main international airport Charles de Gaulle.

Queues formed as half of all flights were also cancelled from Paris's second biggest airport, Orly, which serves domestic and some international destinations, the civil aviation authority DGAC said, AFP reports.

The action will last until early Thursday. Brussels wants to combine French air traffic authorities with those in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Belgium. The walkout has grounded flights across France.

The European Commission hopes the so-called Single European Sky will improve security, boost capacity and cut the cost of air-traffic services. But unions say that will put jobs at risk, according to euronews.
