Germany hands EUR 26 million to Georgia

The German government has agreed to allocate Georgia EUR 26 million. The agreement was signed in Tbilisi yesterday by Georgian Finance Minister Mirian Gogiashvili and German Ambassador to Georgia Uwe Schramm.

As a Rosblat correspondent was informed at the Georgian Finance Ministry, EUR 6 million has been given as a long-term, low-interest loan while EUR 20 million has simply been donated in the form of a grant. The money will go towards reconstructing the apartment blocks damaged during the earthquake in April of last year, improving the Borzhomi-Kharagauli national park, drawing up a proper form of land registration in Georgia and preventing and treating tuberculosis. At the official ceremony Mr Schramm mentioned that the German government has allocated Georgia a total of EUR 240 million since 1993 and intends to continue providing assistance.
