New Moblie AMD processor for notebooks

Further pitting itself against Intel Corp.'s Pentium-M offerings, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. on Monday expanded its lineup of mobile Athlon 64-bit processors.

The new Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 3000+ operates at 2 GHz and is meant for use in thin and lightweight notebook computers. It's the highest-performing processor in the company's family of low-power Mobile AMD Athlon 64 products, which already includes 2700+ and 2800+ versions, according to AMD's Web site.

Acer Inc. is the first computer maker to announce support for the new AMD processor. Taipei, Taiwan-based Acer plans to start selling a notebook in its Ferrari line equipped with the Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 3000+ in Europe later this month and worldwide by the end of October, AMD said, the Computer World reported.

According to the Internet News, "In much the same way that the Ferrari &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/main/2002/05/21/29004.html' target=_blank>race team continues to dominate Formula 1 racing, AMD again outpaces the field with our latest 32/64-bit processor for high-performance notebook PCs," Marty Seyer, AMD corporate vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
