Suppliers Of Poor-quality Meat To Russia Arrested In Austria

The owners of butcheries who have been exporting to Russia meat with forfeited quality labels have been arrested in Austria, the Austrian Interior Ministry reported. While investigating the first outbreak of mad-cow disease in Austria, the country's law enforcers discovered that the owners of butcheries in the federal lands of Lower Austria and Tirol purchased poor quality meat from abroad, mainly from Eastern Europe, wrapped it in nice Austrian package with the Made in Austria signs on them and exported to Russia as high-quality meat and meat products. In the mean time, the European Union is providing Austrian butcheries and other stock-breeding enterprises with substantial subsidies "for the development of the sector." The Austrian Interior Ministry added that the "false" meat deliveries to Russia reported in Lower Austria and Tirol were not individual incidents. An investigation into these crimes is underway now.
