Azerbaijan is ready to send its soldiers to Iraq by May 12th. The press service of the Azerbaijani president quoted Heydar Aliyev as saying as much when receiving US ambassador Ross Wilson on Tuesday in reply to the wish voiced by the US side for Azerbaijani servicemen to be deployed in Iraq by May 11th-12th.

Aliyev added that 180-190 servicemen had already been selected from Azerbaijani military units, 150 of which will be trained and sent to Iraq. According to him, they were having some difficulties finding interpreters, however this problem will be solved.

The Azerbaijani president added that it was necessary to sign a relevant Azerbaijani-US agreement which will settle all the issues related to the deployment of Azerbaijani servicemen to Iraq.

On his part, the US ambassador assured the Azerbaijani president that Azerbaijan would be able to participate in the Iraqi post-war settlement.
