UN SC unanimously adopts resolution on removing anti-Iraq sanctions

The UN Security Council has almost unanimously adopted the resolution on the removal of the anti-Iraqi sanctions and the post-conflict settlement in the country.

Fourteen out of the 15 members of the UN SC voted for the resolution.

The Syrian delegation was not participating in the UN SC session.

Deputy chief of the Russian presidential administration Sergei Prikhodko said that the resolution on Iraq met Russian interests to the maximum.

Prikhodko called the resolution "a common success" and its adoption - "the victory of common sense." The Kremlin representative expressed satisfaction with the fact that, once co-ordinated, this resolution would return "the Iraqi issue to the UN legal field and under the control of its Security Council." "While co-ordinating the document all the sides, including the US which took heed of many remarks voiced by Russia and other countries, demonstrated flexibility and a constructive approach," Prikhodko said.
