Prosecutor General Of Hague International Tribunal To Arrive In Belgrade

On Monday, Prosecutor-General of the International Tribunal for former Yugoslavia Carla del Ponte arrives in Belgrade for a working visit. On Tuesday she will visit Podgorica, capital of Montenegro. In Belgrade, Carla del Ponte will negotiate with Serbian Premier Zoran Djindjic, Justice Ministers of Yugoslavia and Serbia Savo Markovic and Vladan Batic. The issues to be discussed include the development of cooperation between Yugoslavia and the Hague Tribunal and the extradition of persons accused of war crimes, in particular, groups of former commanders of the Yugoslav Army who participated in the operations near the Croatian towns of Bukovar and Dubrovnik. Before her trip to Belgrade, del Ponte said that, after the extradition of former President of Yugoslavia Slobodan Milosevic, Belgrade no longer collaborated with the Hague Tribunal, except in investigating the crimes by Albanian leaders of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army. The Prosecutor said unfortunately tribunal officials had no access to Yugoslav archives. She estimated that Montenegrin cooperation with the Tribunal was also in stagnation.
