German airline Lufthansa between January and October of this year carried 498,000 passengers from Germany to Russia and back again, or 6 per cent more than in the same period of 2000, Ulrich Rueger, the line's regional director in Russia and CIS, said on Thursday. According to him, the number of passengers carried between Germany and CIS countries, including Russia, totaled 740,000 from January to October, or 7 per cent more than in the same period of last year. These figures set records for the airline over the time it has been operating in Russia and the CIS, Rueger noted. According to him, "the positive results of work on the Russian market in general and also impressive growth on individual regional routes are a confirmation of the fact the world crisis in air transportation has not affected this market". Rueger said that from December 1 Lufthansa on some regional Russian routes is increasing the number of flights by 50 per cent.
