NATO, Russia To Join Hands Not In Anti-terror Crusade Alone, Calls Robertson

Anti-terror combat is not the only sphere for Russia and NATO to cooperate, said George Robertson, NATO Secretary-General, as he was making a public address at the Diplomatic Academy under Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The NATO countries and Russia are together facing many dangers beside terrorism, he pointed out calling for closer partnership to build up public safety from chemical, biological and nuclear arms, and their ballistic vehicles. Such partnership will necessarily include resolute prevention of mass destruction arms and materiel proliferation, and blueprinting tentative team efforts for tactical anti-missile defence against arms "which fall into the wrong hands", said Lord Robertson. He called to carry on a highly informative dialogue on military reforms to exchange knowhow and see for sure that forces and arsenals suffice to ward off today's and tomorrow's threats. The NATO Secretary-General highlighted an extremely productive dialogue, now well underway between the alliance and Russia, on partnership for terror act and calamity relief, and other aspects of emergency civil planning. The Parties have gone through political differences over the Balkans, and stored an impressive experience of joint operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo, where NATO and Russian soldiers are serving side by side under joint command, he stressed.
